About Us

Judith Pyne, LMT CMLDT

I am a highly experienced professional with a diverse background in healthcare. Over two decades, I worked as a Certified Pharmacy Technician, leveraging my expertise to ensure the safe and effective dispensing of medications. Following that, I transitioned into the field of Dental Hygiene, where I spent 16 years providing comprehensive oral care to patients.

However, my journey took a transformative turn when I discovered my true passion: Therapeutic Massage. As the proud owner of Sakonnet Therapeutic Massage, I have found immense fulfillment in helping individuals enhance their overall well-being and optimize their athletic performance. Whether it's aiding in recovery from injury or surgery, or simply promoting relaxation and stress relief, I am dedicated to providing tailored treatments that meet the unique needs of each client.

I firmly believe in the power of pre-surgical massage to alleviate discomfort and expedite the recovery process. By implementing specialized techniques, I strive to minimize post-operative complications and support patients on their path to healing. In the same regard, I believe massage therapy to be an important tool for burn survivors to utilize in an effort to release scars or calming the nervous system to allow the body to heal.

Through my multifaceted background and commitment to excellence, I am committed to making a positive impact on the lives of those I serve, empowering them to live happier, healthier, and more vibrant lives. Together we can elevate your wellness.

Further Training:

Burn Scar Release/Traumatic Scar Release

Burn Scar Therapy is a very gentle form of bodywork and can include Manual Lymph Drainage, Craniosacral Therapy, Myofascial Scar Release and Therapeutic Massage. It can be effective on new scars and old scars using light touch therapies. Light touch is used so there is little to no pain to re-traumatize the area or the patient.

Klose Manual Lymph Drainage Certification

Klose Certification included forty-five hours of in-depth training with hands on experience. The course included anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system as well as pathophysiology of the lymphatic system. Indications for MLD were fully covered and included traumatic and post-surgical edema, RSD, headaches/migraines, fibromyalgia, RA, scleroderma, stress, fatigue, general relaxation, detoxification as well as lymphedema. As with any body work there are contraindications which were discussed at length in keeping clients safe.

Certificate in Assisted Stretching

A certificate in Assisted Stretching from the Stretch Institute. The course covered information about injury prevention, recovery from an injury using RICE, stretching and ways to incorporate bodywork into rehabilitation planning to allow the client to return to activity in as little time as possible. An overview of one hundred and twenty sports injuries were discussed as well as the anatomy of sports injuries. Included in the course was strength and flexibility exercises to aid in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of sports injuries.

Certificate in Cupping

Cupping therapy is an ancient healing technique that has been used for thousands of years.

Cupping therapy involves placing cups on specific parts of the body, such as the back, neck, arms, or legs. The cups create a vacuum or suction force that pulls the skin upward. The goal is to increase blood flow to the affected area and enhance the body’s natural healing response.

While experts are still exploring the precise mechanisms, here’s how it generally works: Suction from the cups draws fluid into the treated area. This suction force expands and breaks open tiny blood vessels (capillaries) under the skin. The thought is the body replenishes the cupped areas with healthier blood flow, promoting proper healing at a cellular level.

Risks and benefits:

Cupping can cause bruising lasting from hours to a week.

While there’s mixed evidence on its benefits, the treatment risks are generally low.

RI-Crisis Massage Team

I have joined the Rhode Island Crisis Massage Team which provides a resource of chair massages to support RI emergency personnel and disaster responders during a time of crisis and disaster. First responders give of themselves for hours and even days without thinking of their own needs, often in situations of high stress and danger. The RI Crisis Massage Team is a well-organized team with the highest standards. The team is called to action in a time of crisis to support first responders when they need it most. I am proud of this accomplishment.
